Nashville Outlaws

February 1 - April 3, 2022

Yee Haw! One of our most-requested shows of all time is back. Saddle up and hang on tight as we go for a ride with the “bad boys” of country. Featuring the great music and offbeat lives of Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and the great Johnny Cash, the Mayfield once again pays tribute to these Nashville renegades and their uncompromising spirit. These three Honkytonk Heroes became icons of the industry and changed the face of Nashville forever. Heads up, hat on, we are headin’ into outlaw country!

Meet the Performers!

Melissa MacPherson

You may have caught her before right here on the Mayfield stage in productions of All Shook Up, Four Lads who Shook the World- Parts I and II or The Golden Age of Rock, Pop, and Doo Wop to name a few. Maybe you’ve seen her around town in some other production such as The Woman in Black (Theatre Network), Much Ado About Nothing (Freewill Players), Beauty and the Beast (Citadel Theatre), or The Invisible – Agents of Ungentlemanly Warfare (Catalyst Theatre). Either way, she’s sure happy to see you! Enjoy the show, folks!

Duane Steele

Waylon Jennings

Duane Steele is among Canada’s top country recording artists and songwriters with a career dating back to 1984 and his first band, Rock ‘N’ Horse. The multi award-winning artist has since released seven studio albums and one greatest hits album, with many Top 10 singles on the Canadian country charts including the #1 hit “Anita Got Married”. Duane has toured the world, headlining his own shows and opening for some of the hottest acts in country music. His pure voice and authentic country sound also make him the ideal artist for the currently touring, custom-built tribute show The Legend of George Jones. In 2020, Duane released a new album called Bonfires and Guitars which included a duet with Gord Bamford. When he’s not touring or working on his own projects, he is often working with other artists on writing and music production.

Tyler Check

Tyler is an actor, singer, musician, director, teacher, producer, and writer originally from Kingston Ontario. Previous theatre credits include: The Buddy Holly Story (Mayfield Dinner Theatre), Mamma Mia (Stage West), Canada 151 (Mayfield Dinner Theatre), Million Dollar Quartet (Stage West/Mayfield/Drayton Entertainment/Mirvish), All You Need is Love & Rock n Roll (RuBarb Productions), You’ll Get Used To It…The War Show!, Kings & Queens of Country, Marathon of Hope (Drayton Entertainment), Forever Plaid (Starvox/Stirling Festival Theatre), Spamalot (Stephenville Theatre Festival). Tyler would like to thank The Talent House, as well as his family, for their constant love and support.

Steve Hoy

One of the most respected and in-demand drummers in Western Canada, Stephen performs and records with numerous national and international artists. Known for his versatility and keen musicianship, Stephen is looking forward to performing again with the Mayfield Dinner Theatre.

Lisa MacDougall

Lisa has been a touring and recording artist, musician and musical theatre director in the business for over 25 years! She has toured with such artists as Rita MacNeil, Roger Whittaker and Molly Johnson, to name a few. Some favorite theatre credits include Jesus Christ Superstar, Chicago, and The Rocky Horror Show (Neptune Theatre, Halifax, NS), Cabaret, Hair, Folkswaggin’, and most recently, A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline (Mayfield Dinner Theatre). Always a pleasure to return to Edmonton and my Mayfield “family”! Huge thanks to my pal, Van Wilmott, for having me back! Enjoy the show and stay safe!!!!

Derek Stremel

Derek grew up in a musical family and started playing music at a young age. He moved to Alberta after high school, leaving his Manitoba farming roots behind to pursue his professional musical career. Early in his career he also took a job for Otis Elevator Company and, like every job, it had its ups and downs. He heard that hard work never killed anybody but figured, why take the chance? So, for over two decades now he has been employed at the Mayfield Dinner. Although not the best bassist among the musicians before you, he’s in the top five. Derek would never use gratuitous italics and is always delighted by the opportunity to write about himself in the third person. Fun fact, he once rolled with Willie on his tour bus. He’d love to go into more detail but only has 150 words and has unfortunately run out of.

Harley Symington

Harley has contributed to…well…a LOT…of productions at the Mayfield as guitarist, vocalist, head of audio/live mix engineer/sound designer, and on a few occasions as a cast member. (Note: No actors were harmed or suffered loss of work due to these experiments).  A few favourites include Four Lads Who Shook The World: The Beatles Story (as George Harrison), Soul Sistas, The Simon and Garfunkel Story, Folkswaggin’, A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline, and J.C. Superstar. He has toured extensively with many artists, performing at events such as Lilith Fair and other music festivals, and on the national tour of the musical Red Rock Diner. Other than theatre he keeps busy freelancing and performing with his own group in support of his debut CD, entitled “Don’t Talk”. He also holds a diploma with honours from the Computer Systems Technology program at NAIT.
