The Tony Award-nominated Million Dollar Quartet explodes on stage with a monumental night of rock ‘n’ roll! On December 4, 1956, a twist of fate brought Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley together at Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee. The foursome held an impromptu jam session and producer Sam Phillips, knowing he was witnessing a once-in-a-lifetime event, had the session captured on camera by the local newspaper. The picture from that chance meeting was dubbed ‘Million Dollar Quartet’ and became a legend in rock ‘n roll history. Featuring an incredible jukebox of hits like Hound Dog, Blue Suede Shoes, Folsom Prison Blues, That’s All Right, Great Balls of Fire and a whole lot more, Million Dollar Quartet captures the contagious spirit, freewheeling excitement and powerhouse performances of music’s most famous recording session!

Welcome to the Mayfield Dinner Theatre and what I’m sure you find to be a great evening of entertainment. With a season that is largely dedicated to the phenomenon that we know as rock ‘n’ roll, there could not be a better show to kick it off. Million Dollar Quartet is a moment in history. It is literally a snapshot of an evening in December 1956 taken in the infamous Sun Records recording studio, arguably the birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll. Certainly its owner/operator, Sam Phillips, was one of the key players. He’s the man who discovered Elvis! And if that wasn’t enough, he also signed Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Howlin’ Wolf and many more. This is really his story, facing the challenges of selling Elvis to RCA so he could keep his doors open, hanging on to the talent he had (Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins) and out discovering new talent for the future (Jerry Lee Lewis). These four amazing artists featured in this show represent exactly that, the past, the present and the future of rock n roll. With Sam Phillips it was in good hands, and so are you this evening with the fabulous talent on the stage telling this story. All newcomers save one to the Mayfield stage, we are thrilled to have them here and we are all excited to share this experience with our theatre patrons. Enjoy!
